System and Network configuration β€’ Re: systemctl networking service?

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 25 March

Maybe you should first answer the question: why do you (think you) need to disable networking.service?
Then we can take it from there OK?
Thanks for the offer, but I figured out what the issue was that was preventing me from disabling 'networking.service'.

      Hardware β€’ Close switch

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 25 March

I am running Debian 12 on a Lenovo laptop and the laptop switch does not suspend the O.S.when i close the laptop. I have opened another case where my mute key indicator doesn't light up making me think the hardware configuration is not correct. viewtopic.php?p=819571#p819571

General Questions β€’ Re: Laptop won't stay suspended only when lid is open

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 25 March

I think you may have fixed my issue, although not the way you intended! In my troubleshooting efforts I uncommented the line HandleLidSwitchExternalPower and set it to ignore. That didn't help anything. I forgot I changed that though, so I commented it back out and now it's working! However, that alone isn't the fix. I discovered that I need to disable a few things from /proc/acpi/wakeup. The three entries that seem to be causing all the issues are PEG1, RP03, and RP17. So far it's sleeping as expected and staying asleep.

EDIT: All I had to do was (as root)

    Code:

    echo LID0 > /proc/acpi/wakeup
It makes perfect sense now that I think about it. It works when the lid is closed, but not open. That's a dead giveaway there's something going on with the switch. Now I just need to make it permanent with a systemd service.

This is a single desktop PC sitting in an office.
Not relevant, at all. Read the linked article. What I advised is standard best practice. And I notice you ignored the troubleshooting-diagnostics advice. I'll find something else to do with my time. Good luck.

Please use code tags for text output. Fixed it for you this time
A search of Debian User forums doesn't come up with anything resembling "code tags"; my guess is that it has something to do with "pastebin" I had tried that but could find no way to connect it "submit" it to this or any other thread so that's another hurdle but since the Win. 10 iso didn't work I'll try and find the time to research whatever arcane rules there are in order to paste something in some special format; pastebin has no instructions that I can find so it looks like pasting something will be more complex by a big margin than reinstalling an OS.
Highlight text you want to put in code tags, press the black rectangle icon with the </> sign. Easy peasy!

    Code:

    text here

Bookworm was released 21 months ago. That means your "new"Lenovo is probably made from components newer than the Debian 12 software, thus either unsupported or incompletely supported. If it's truly new, a backport kernel could provide a solution. Possibly a full upgrade to Trixie (13pre/testing) could could do better, or installing a distro that's at least as new as 6 months newer than your computer. Providing input/output from inxi -GSnaz --vs could help us help you further. If it exists in /var/log/ or ~/.local/share/xorg/, attaching or pastebinning Xorg.0.log could also help, and /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log renamed to lightdmlog.txt (if pastebinning).
