    My computer freezes around the login screen about half the time. I think the problem may be with lightdm. It is a new Lenovo ThinkCentre with a fresh install of Debian 12 Bookworm.

    On a freeze, the screen is not updated, mouse and keyboard actions are not registered, and there seems to be no activity at the USB ports. The only thing to do is force shutdown with the power button.

    The freeze happens either just before, during, or just after the login screen. I have not been able to reliably cause the freeze. The xession-errors file and the systemctl output don't seem to capture the event.

    What can I do to confirm if lightdm is the problem, and what to do if it is?

    For anyone following this, the LightDM project does not have an active forum for discussion. Their Launchpad page refers to GitHub and it refers questions to Ask Ubuntu. When I posted a question on Ask Ubuntu, it was closed as off-topic because Ubuntu doesn't use LightDM any more. The Debian site refers back to here for support, so I will make a dedicated thread in the Hardware sub-forum. I will also try posting on the Debian XFCE maintainers list.

    Hello!

    I'm not an expert but, IIRC your should look in the file <code>/etc/systemd/logind.conf</code> and uncomment the line <code>HandleLidSwitch=suspend</code>.

    Afterwards, you'll need to restart the service <code>sudo systemctl restart systemd-logind</code>

    I seriously need some guidance about Timeshift. I am doing something wrong when trying to back up my bookworm 12.10 system. The app runs alright but when I browse the backed up files, there are none. Only directories. Can someone please help.

    I have an ASUS TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition FA617NT laptop. Tried installing Debian 12.8.1 from USB stick. Installation began OK but the installer was unable to respond to the keyboard or to detect the built-in WiFi. Tried to install Debian 12.9.0, which as soon as I determined the installer couldn't respond to the keyboard, I gave up. Unknown whether 12.9.0 installer can detect WiFi.
