    Same machine here too.
I had brighness control - but at 100 % the screen was still quite dark.
    This solved it:
    Add following to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="pcie_aspm=force acpi_backlight=native"
    in /etc/default/grub and:

    Code:

    update-grub

As far as I remember, you can hold down Alt and drag the window up with the left mouse button. That will let you see the bottom of the window and possibly resize it.

It is connected to the drives via a SAS-743TQ backplane. The host adapter is configured for HBA (pass through) mode.

Testing And Unstable β€’ Re: Does the Debian team support the testing branch?

    Hello,
    Hello,

Maybe this video (by Samuel Henrique) from DebianConf24 could be useful to answer some of your questions and to have an overall picture of the work of the security team:Hope this helps.
It seems to be a conf for devs, experts and technicians and unluckily I'm none of these.
The linked video has many technical details, but it gives you the overall picture, too.

DebConf is for everyone (not just developers) and is held in a different country each year. This year DebConf25 will take place in France:

    Hello,
    Situation:
4-drive ZFS mirror (each drive 4TB SAS attached to ASR-71605)
How is the Adaptec ASR-71605 SCSI RAID PCI card connected to the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) device ?

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 6 April edit

    Hi Aki,
the issue in the post you mentioned is a different one, but might have in common the same cause (incorrect display of drive WWNs).
The issue back then was that the WWNs shown by ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/ was that those did not get recognized when being used as drive identifier, so the solution back then was to use the ata-... identifiers instead.

The issue now however is a different one.
One of four drives in the mirror faulted.
When I shut down the computer to no cause mayhem by pulling the wrong drive, I found that the WWNs shown by ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/ are not the ones printed on the drive labels. They are different ones. Well, they are almost the same except the last 4, 5 digits.

Now my problem is to identify the failed drive... they are all Toshiba drives, same type, same batch, so the WWN are close to each other.
They are connected to the host adapter via a SAS-743TQ backplane. The host adapter is configured for HBA (pass through) mode.
Any idea how to identify the bad drive without correct WWN?

Graphical Environments & Desktops β€’ Re: Help needed: Can't re-install gnome?

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 6 April

    Hello,

According to the output of apt-policy, you have configured a lot of different Debian repositories for i386 and amd64, including:
    • bullseye-security
    • bookworm-backports
    • bookworm-proposed-updates
Plus many other third party repositories.

Try disabling bullseye-security, debian-backports and bookworm-proposed-updates repositories, then run the following commands:

    Code:

sudo apt updatesudo apt -s install gnome
The "-s" in the second command means that you are simulating the installation. Remove the "-s" option to commence the installation of gnome after checking what it does.

Graphical Environments & Desktops β€’ Debian 12 Xfce - new installation - thunar file manager preferences not usable

Here a screenshot of my TP T450s with thunar preferences. Installed with Buster and upgraded to Bullseye and the Bookworm.

Not usable, you can not confirm those settings and you can not resize the windows.

Tried Mint and MX, no issue there, tried earlier Debian 12 live versions, all the same. But with Debian 11 live - no problem.

As I am not willing to run a non Debian distro on that machine, I found a remedy in changing the scaling in Xfce settings > display to 1.1, but that does not explain, what I am experiencing here? I think, that is not OK. Should I write a bug report? But I do have no hope, the developers will have a look at it .... (Old notebook, Xfce GUI issue  )

And both machines do have the same graphic data. Was planning a new installation on the T450s, when trixie gets stable, but after seeing that, I'll upgrade and have a look first.
