Testing And Unstable β€’ [Testing - Trixie] 'gdm' login screen marked as 'Debian 12'

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 29 April

I'm sorry to be such a naive person but is there going to be 'Debian 13' replacement for login screen?
One more: do I have to edit '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.sources' to modernize security sources in anyway as soon as Testing will become Stable?

System and Network configuration β€’ Re: Disable dbus-daemon syslog messages

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 29 April

Perhaps in /usr/lib/systemd/system/dbus.service, and also in /etc/default/dbus.

System and Network configuration β€’ Disable dbus-daemon syslog messages

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 29 April

    Hi there,

I'm searching for a way to disable syslog messages written by dbus-daemon.

    I have read this : https://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/dbus-daemon.1.html

Then I tried to create a /etc/dbus-1/system-local.conf and use the "nosyslog" option but then dbus fails to start. :D

Hence the question, how to use the "nosyslog" option to disable log messages from dbus-daemon.

    Thanks in advance.

Debian Development Discussion β€’ Re: [Discussion] Cleaning up bug tracker

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 9 April

    Hello,
I almost wonder if the bug tracker could benefit from some sort of web and TUI interface to make the clean-up process easier. Do you think this discussion can be started here, or is there a more appropriate forum for it? A mailing list, IRC, etc.
This is the right place for discussing the Debian Bug Tracking System software:

General Questions β€’ Re: [Software] What is the correct "mysql-client" package to install in Debian 12?

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 9 April

    Hello,
Interesting, so wondered why MySQL stills offer the .deb file for Debian at: https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/repo/apt/
The deb file format is an open specification by Debian Linux distribution, so anyone can use it, even private companies like Oracle.

A deb binary package is not necessarily intended for Debian, unless it comes from the Debian repository or from third-party repositories that declare themselves as Debian-compatible.

So, other Linux distributions and non-free software vendors distribute deb binary packages that are not intended for Debian and that can be compatible or (more often) incompatible with Debian.

Graphical Environments & Desktops β€’ deb 12.10 cinnamon -sound level issue

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 9 April β€’ 3 minutes

    Hi debians..

I have a bit of strange issue been going on with my deb 12.10 cinnamon installation , from time to time after a shutdown or reboot sound is high and clear sound and i see the volume level is at right now 50% or whatever the current setting is, immediately if i adjust any of the volume settings buttons lower or higher , the sound level jumps down to a very low output level even tough i have increased volume level up to 55% when i pressed volume button.
what could be causing this strange behaviour. ?

in system monitor i see that - pipewire-pulse , pipewire and wireplumber is active in processes .

is there some way to find out what is causing this behaviour.

    here is my inxi output:

If you're tired of compiling packages, you could always just just install a 6.14 Liquorix or Xanmod kernel.

    Code:

    $ uname -aLinux dellmx23 6.14.1-1-liquorix-amd64 #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC liquorix 6.14-2~mx23ahs (2025-04-07) x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm pretty sure that it's a pure Python application, which means it's not really compiled like a C or C++ application.

Debian Development Discussion β€’ Re: [Discussion] Cleaning up bug tracker

      news.woodpeckersnest.space / forums-debian-net:0 β€’ 9 April

Still, there are thousands of dubiously old bugs where the original reporter either did not follow up, was unable to provide a reproducible example, or simply hasn't noticed that the bug is fixed in newer versions.

For example: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=12411 - a bug from 1997 (!) is still present. And there are hundreds of similar reports.

I almost wonder if the bug tracker could benefit from some sort of web and TUI interface to make the clean-up process easier. Do you think this discussion can be started here, or is there a more appropriate forum for it? A mailing list, IRC, etc.
